How to Evolve Eevee in Pokémon GO: Every Eeveelution Method

Use the correct buddy, lure, time-of-day, or nickname method to evolve Eevee into Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, or Sylveon.

Table of Contents

Eevee can evolve into eight forms in Pokémon GO. Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon are normally random; Espeon and Umbreon require buddy walking and the correct time of day; Leafeon and Glaceon use special Lure Modules; and Sylveon requires enough Buddy hearts. A nickname trick can force each result once per account.

Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon

Without the nickname trick, the basic Eevee evolution randomly produces Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon. There is no standard item that lets you choose among these three in Pokémon GO. The elemental stones used in main-series Pokémon games do not control Eevee evolution here.

Because the result is random, do not evolve your only high-quality Eevee if you need one specific Kanto form and have already used its nickname. Save enough Eevee Candy for repeated attempts.

Espeon and Umbreon

Set the Eevee you want to evolve as your buddy, walk 10 km with it, and earn two Eevee Candy from the walking distance. Keep that same Eevee as your buddy when you evolve it. Evolve during the in-game day for Espeon or at night for Umbreon.

Before tapping Evolve, inspect the silhouette or evolution image on the button. If it shows a question mark, the requirements have not registered and the result may be one of the random Kanto forms. Check the walking distance, Candy earned, buddy status, and the map's day or night appearance.

Leafeon and Glaceon

For Leafeon, stand within interaction range of a PokéStop running a Mossy Lure Module. For Glaceon, use a PokéStop running a Glacial Lure Module. Open Eevee's detail page while still in range and verify that the desired evolution appears on the button.

You can use a Lure placed by another trainer; you do not have to be the person who activated it. Remaining inside the visible lure effect is not enough if you are outside the PokéStop's interaction range.

Sylveon

Make the chosen Eevee your buddy and earn 70 Buddy hearts with it. Hearts come from supported buddy activities such as walking together, feeding, playing, taking a snapshot, battling, and visiting eligible places. Once the requirement is recorded, Sylveon appears as an evolution option.

Buddy hearts are not the same as total walking distance or Candy. If Sylveon does not appear, continue earning hearts with that exact Eevee and check again later.

Use the nickname trick safely

Rename Eevee with the nickname in the table, close and reopen its detail page if necessary, and inspect the Evolve button. The expected evolution should replace the question mark or generic silhouette before you spend Candy.

The nickname method works only once for each evolution per account. Renaming another Eevee “Rainer,” for example, will not guarantee a second Vaporeon after that nickname has already been used successfully.

Pre-evolution checklist

  • Confirm you selected the correct Eevee, especially if several have similar CP.
  • Check the evolution image; do not proceed if it shows a question mark when you expect a specific form.
  • Keep Eevee as your buddy for Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon until the desired option appears.
  • Stay within range of the active Lure for Leafeon or Glaceon.
  • Remember that each nickname guarantee is single-use.

The safest rule is simple: never rely on the text name alone. Confirm that the desired Eeveelution is visibly shown on the Evolve button before spending Candy.
