Microsoft has just released Windows Defender virus scanning tool on Google Chrome as a utility, including a list of infected URLs that will be blocked in Chrome. The utility will prevent malicious code from sneaking into your computer through malicious websites, and also preventing fake emails from phishing successfully.
The utility displays a red page when the user clicks on the poisoned link, which is quite similar to Chrome which displays through Safe Browsing API, only based on Microsoft's poisoned link list, called the SmartScreen API.
Google has already protected the link in Chrome, so adding Microsoft tools seems unnecessary. MSS Labs' benchmark benchmark shows that Edge (using the SmartScreen API) blocks 99% of scams via malicious URLs, compared to only 87% and 70% on Chrome and Firefox.
Notify when users access the infected page of Windows Defender
SmartScreen API is a reliable technology, the anti-exploitation capability that Edge has gained due to its integration with Windows 10 makes it more difficult to break if attacked via the web.
