Learn about Easy Printing in Windows Server 2012
Easy Printing is a feature that allows clients to connect via RDS to print via the network. It is installed in Windows Server 2012 by default. Easy Printing is basically where the printer device is defined on the client system and the printer is directly connected to the network. All configurations are done through Group Policy Objects .
The configuration settings can be found at Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Remote Desktop Services - Printer Redirection.
For User Configuration , it will have the same Administrative Templates path - Remote Desktop Services - Printer Redirection.
In administration, another important aspect is to set the priority for the printer, so users have the same printer installer and can print according to their priority. In this case, printing will be in the order of users with the highest priority then lowering to other users with lower priority.
To do so, you need to add different logical printers and then add users or departments that have different priorities.
To do this, first add the printer to the Print Server, by following the steps given below.
Step 1 - Click Server Manager> Tools> Print Management . Then on the left panel, click Print Servers, then right-click Printers> Add Printer .
Step 2 - Next, follow the requirements of the wizard to add the network printer, as you would for a normal workstation and finally, this printer will be displayed in Printer Management .
Step 3 - Now, you have installed the printer. You can set the priority for this printer by right-clicking on the printer, selecting Advanced, setting a number from 1-99 in the Priority section , and then clicking OK.
