How to project Android screen on Windows 10 with Miracast and Connect

If you view your Android device on a larger screen, you can use the Android screen projection on your computer. In this article, we will introduce you to a built-in Windows application that helps connect Android and the simplest computer.

The Anniversary Update (AU) update of Windows 10 integrates a new application called Connect. Connect can mirror your Android device's audio and video on your computer. This means that any computer using Windows Anniversary will function as a Miracast wireless receiver, allowing users to view Android programs on a larger screen than Windows. The application contains many great features, such as wireless smartphone slide show, online media center and more.

To connect wirelessly to computers using Windows 10 Aniversary Update, we must ensure the hardware and software requirements.

Hardware and software requirements

Hardware and software must be compatible with each other.

  3. Windows 10 version 1607 (AU build 14393.82).

  1. Android 4.2 or later - Android 4.4+ supports better compatibility.

If you are using the old version of Windows, the only way now is to join the Windows Insider program to upgrade to Windows 10 AU. Then set your Insider level to Fast or Release Preview .

To update to the latest version of Windows 10, open the Window search bar and enter insider. From the menu below, select Get Insider Preview builds . Then, in the Choose your Insider level section , select Fast or Release Preview .

This update process may take several days. However, Windows 10 Insider builds often have many errors. I recommend waiting until Microsoft releases the original version rather than updating an unstable Windows version.

Configuring Microsoft Connect application

To start the screen slideshow, users must first open the Connect app on Windows 10 device. Connect is only available in the latest version of Windows 10 AU, so as I mentioned above: if you use Older version, you have to update to be able to use it

To open Connect, press the Windows key . Next, type connect into the search bar and select the Connect application from the list of options. Here is the first menu image

After launching Connect, Windows will search for available Miracast devices. On Android device, click Cast or Miracast option. The menu in older versions of Android calls screencasting as Miracast. In newer versions (like Android 4.4 or newer), it is called Cast. It is located in Settings> Display> Miracast or Cast.

To start, first select Cast. The following sub-menu will show the available Windows 10 machines. Second, click on the device you want to display the Android screen on.

When you have selected the destination screen for transmission, Windows and Android will start connecting wirelessly directly.

Both devices are connected by using a protocol called Wi-Fi Direct. The thing is Wi-Fi Direct creates its own hotspot, which can interfere with other wireless signals. In my experience, network speed can be reduced by up to 90%. These performance issues can explain why Google dropped the standard on its Nexus smartphones and tablets.

Here's what happens to my download speed. These numbers continue to reduce Internet speed until I disconnect Wi-Fi Direct.

However, when it works, things will go smoothly.

How can I use Android Screen Mirroring?

We will use another reflective screen to connect Android to the computer. This is a great way to share screens but requires a lot of effort to configure. The advantage of the Connect application is that it is pre-installed and pre-configured on Windows 10 AU (version 14393.82). That means we will save more time, and it does not require root permissions on Android devices. Because of its ease of use, this application works well with three roles:

  1. Media center transmission - Similar to Chromecast, Connect app also allows users to display the browser, including Netflix and Spotify on the screen connected to Windows 10. As a media center, Android device as a Remote control device with double screen.
  2. Wireless Android screen - You can also pair your Android device with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, turning it into a desktop computer. However, there are also some speed issues, which can reduce the user experience.
  3. Presentation platform - I mentioned this in the first part, but its importance is another matter. Not only does it eliminate most slide presentation related problems from a computer, it also provides you with a free remote driver (your phone).

Overall Connect is the easiest method I've ever tried (including the Miracast adapter) in all wireless mirroring applications. If you watch Android devices on a larger screen, you can use this way.
