How to compress and decompress files with WinRAR

WinRar is the most popular file compression and decompression software on computers today with many useful features, besides basic file compression and decompression features. Compressing files with WinRar will help send large files on Gmail much simpler and faster, as you can send multiple files at the same time and reduce the size of the file you want to send. Especially when using WinRar software to compress files, you can choose the format of the file after compression. The article below will guide you to compress and decompress files using WinRar.

1. How to compress files with WinRAR

Step 1:

We can select multiple files to compress at once, or put all the files that need to be compressed into one folder for more convenient compression. The files that need to be compressed do not need to be in the same file format.

Then, right-click those files and folders and select Add to archive .

Step 3:

At that time, the setup interface for the compressed file will be displayed later. First of all, you can name the compressed file , or rename the compressed file in the Archive name section . Next, choose the format for the compressed file at Archive format . Supported formats include rar, zip and rar5.

Step 4:

Next, if you want to set a password for the extracted file , in the Set password section , click to enter the password.

Display the interface to enter the password , enter the password to secure the compressed file and click OK to save.

After you have set up all the content, click the OK button to proceed with compressing the selected file. Immediately after that the file compression process is performed.

2. How to extract files with WinRAR

Step 1:

At the file you want to extract, right-click on the file and you will see 3 options as below.

  1. Extract files to select the desired decompression path.
  2. Extract here if you want to extract the file in the current directory.
  3. Extract to file name the software will create a folder with the file name and extract it there.

Click 1 of the 3 options below to extract.

Step 2:

When selecting Extract here , all files in the extracted file will be displayed one after another.

If you select Extract files , the interface will display to select the folder containing the extracted files later. Click New folder to select the folder containing the files after extracting.

When selecting Extract to file name, the software will display the folder as below.

In case the file has a password, you need to enter the password to decompress it.
