How to add emojis to your Discord server

Unlike other communication platforms, Discord allows users to add and use new emojis in chats. Below is a complete guide on how to upload custom emojis to make your chats more exciting on Discord.

Add emojis to Discord server

Users with free accounts can only upload images as emojis, while Discord Nitro users can add animated emoticons. Users without a Nitro account only receive 50 free emoticons, meaning only 50 emoticons can be displayed at a time.

To upload emojis to the server using the Discord desktop/web application:

1. Go to Server settings by clicking the small menu icon next to the server name. Then, select Emoji from the left sidebar and click Upload emoji to continue.

 

2. Select an image or GIF file using the file browser, and Discord will automatically add the emoji. Discord uses the uploaded file name as the emoji name by default.

To add emojis using the Discord app on your smartphone, go to Server settings and tap Emoji. Next, tap the Upload Emoji button and select the media file to continue.

Discord will load the file and ask if you want to upload it. You also have the option to crop the image here. Press Upload to complete adding the emoji to the server .

Here are the requirements for uploading emojis:

1. Image size must be under 256KB.

2. Emoji names must be at least two characters long.

3. Emoji names can only include letters, numbers, and underscores.

4. For animated emojis, a Discord Nitro account is required.
