As promised in September, Google launched a 64-bit version of the Chrome browser for Mac after a few months of beta. According to Google's initial announcement, the update supports 32-bit extensions and requires all developers to update with 64-bit support.
The update also fixes more than 40 security bugs and adds many new APIs for extension developers. Chrome uses an automatic update mechanism so that the files will be automatically downloaded and installed according to the latest version. With the release of Chrome 39, the 32-bit version of Chrome will be deactivated and left only on Chrome 38, which means that some older Mac users will not be able to use Chrome 39.
