Windows 7 collapses before 8 of 10 viruses
' Disappointingly and contrary to Microsoft's claims, Windows 7 easily falls to 8 of the 10 viruses we tested ,' said security vendor Sophos.
British security firm Sophos has just conducted an experiment: Install the newly launched operating system Windows 7 on a completely " clean " computer and leave the User Account Control (UAC) in default mode then ' test pump ' into that computer 10 random virus samples.
As a result, 8 out of 10 samples are still comfortable in Windows 7.
' We've tried 10 separate virus samples provided by SophosLabs to check the safety of this new version of the operating system as well as the ability to support UAC's security that Microsoft has been promoting for so long. Disappointing and contrary to Microsoft's claims, Windows 7 is still as weak as previous versions. The good news is that there are two virus samples that can't work on Windows 7 , 'security analyst Chester Wisnieski wrote on the security firm's blog.
However, there is almost no foolish use of a computer without any security software, while Microsoft also provided Microsoft Security Essientials software for free. This free antivirus software is rated by security circles as good for end users who cannot afford commercial security software.
Sophos experts also once again warned that the first thing to do after buying a new computer is to install antivirus software.
" UAC has the task of preventing illegal software from operating on customers' computers, but most virus samples easily overcome it. That's the weakness of UAC, " Sophos spokesman said. , ' More worrisome is that computer manufacturers are only interested in pre-installing operating systems without antivirus software '.
