Why is Kindle the best reading app?

Many people finally get back to reading books after years. But they quickly realize how expensive (and cumbersome) paper books are. So they rely on reading apps to keep up the habit. After testing nearly every app I could find, none of them compare to this one.

The Kindle app has an easy-to-use interface.

Everything you need in a reading app is here

When people hear the word Amazon Kindle, they usually think of an e-reader. While many people ditched their Kindles years ago for iPads and more recently other devices, there is one app that they can't seem to get rid of: Amazon's Kindle app.

The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play Store , and despite trying out a plethora of eBook and ePub readers that friends and people online recommend, many people still find themselves coming back to the Kindle app.

While the Kindle app essentially lets you turn any phone, tablet, or laptop into an e-reader, that's not what this article is about. If you already have an e-reader, what really matters to you is the features and convenience that the Kindle app adds.

If you've tried other reading apps, you know how difficult it can be to navigate the app when you first start using it. With most reading apps you've tried, you often spend more time figuring out the initial menus than actually reading. Sure, you get used to them eventually, but by then, many people have moved on to the next app because it's so frustrating.

Reading progress is synchronized across all devices

No more losing ground

Many people read primarily on e-readers these days. Even if you've moved away from your Kindle and moved on to an Onyx Boox, the Kindle app can still help you keep your reading progress in sync across all your devices.

When on the go, many people read books on the Palma 2, which fits in the palm of their hand, and when they come home to read in bed after a tiring day, there's nothing better than reading on the 10.3-inch screen of the Note Air 4C. Sometimes, they don't have access to any e-reader and want to continue reading on their phone or iPad. Boox's syncing process is too difficult to set up.

Even when it's set up, it doesn't sync across iPhones and iPads. Since all Boox devices run Android and you can download apps from the Google Play Store, many people opt to use third-party e-reader apps. Unfortunately, most apps' syncing capabilities either don't work or require too much initial setup.

A truly unparalleled reading experience

Who doesn't love a fully customizable reading experience?

No matter how great an app's UI is and how smooth its syncing is, what good is an e-reading app if the reading experience itself is frustrating? Luckily, the Kindle app is no slouch. Almost everything about the reading experience is customizable.

You can adjust the font style and size, change line spacing, adjust margins, and even switch between light, dark, and sepia modes to make reading more comfortable for your eyes. The Kindle app lets you choose from different themes like Compact , Standard , Large , and Low Vision , and you can even save your own settings as a new theme.

The Kindle app tells you how much time you have left to read a chapter or a book.

Perfect for late night reading

You know that moment when you're reading a book late at night and your eyes are burning and you can't keep them open any longer, but you're so immersed in the story that you can't stop? Knowing exactly how much time is left in a chapter or book can help you decide whether to continue or call it a night. When reading a paperback, you can quickly estimate how much you've read by judging the thickness of the remaining pages. With e-books, however, this becomes more complicated.

Most reading apps tend to just show you the number of pages you've read or the percentage of the book you've finished. While the Kindle app also shows you the percentage completed, it goes a step further. It can also show you the estimated time it takes to finish the chapter you're reading or the entire book. Kindle bases this on your reading speed, and in my experience, it's pretty accurate.

Don't worry, you're not limited to just Amazon books.

You can read almost anything

When people hear about the Kindle app, they often think that it only works with books purchased from Amazon. But that's not true at all. You can send many different types of files to the Kindle app, including PDF , DOC, DOCX, EPUB , etc. Whether it's a free e-book you downloaded online, lecture notes, or any document you want to read on the go, the Kindle app has you covered.

The Kindle app's combination of seamless syncing, customizable reading experience, and support for a wide range of file types makes it a must-have for any regular reader. And lastly, it's completely free to download, so what are you waiting for?
