Which Samsung Galaxy A Series phone is right for you?
. The base Galaxy A01 phone will be available in the US for $110 (about £90 or AU$180) along with the A51 LTE phone, which costs $400 (£329, AU$599). International pricing details aren't yet available for all models, but the 4G LTE versions of the A51 and A71 are already on sale in the UK and Australia.
The Galaxy A01 is the smallest and cheapest of the new phones. It features a 5.7-inch HD display, offers 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. It has a dual-camera setup led by a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 3,000-mAh battery. Meanwhile, the LTE version of the Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch HD display, 128GB of storage and 4GB RAM. It's also got a four-camera setup led by a 48-megapixel sensor, and a 4,000-mAh battery. It has a more modern design and a less noticeable notch than the A01. At $400 (£329, AU$599), it's the most expensive 4G phone in this year's Galaxy A Series.
Based on the specs sheet, the two phones don't have much in common. But both have the option to expand your storage by 512GB and the presence of headphone jacks, which is something that appears in all six of the 2020 Galaxy A phones.
In between those two phones are the Galaxy A11 for $180 and the Galaxy A21 selling for $250, which will be released in the summer. Both of these phones have 4,000-mAh batteries and are similar in size and memory. The main differences are in their camera setups. Where the A11 has a tri-camera module on the rear, led by a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, the A21 has four cameras on the rear with a 16-megapixel main sensor.
Galaxy A series gets more 5G phones
Although 2019's Galaxy A90 was the first 5G phone in the A Series, the 2020 handsets are still among the first few Galaxy A phones to have 5G. The A71 5G phone is the largest, most powerful and most expensive member of the Galaxy A family after the A90. It'll set you back $600 when it goes on sale in the summer, but it has a 6.7-inch FHD Plus (meaning 2,340x1,080 pixels) Super AMOLED Plus Infinity-O display, 25-watt fast charging support and a four-camera module on the phone's rear, led by a massive 64-megapixel main snapper. The UK and Australia already have a 4G LTE version for £419 or AU$729.
The Galaxy A51 also comes with a 5G-capable variant, which has a larger battery than its 4G sibling and comes with 6GB RAM instead of 4GB. It's $100 cheaper than the A71 5G at $499, with a smaller 6.5-inch FHD Plus Super AMOLED Infinity-O display. It also has 15-watt fast charging support. Again, there's a four-camera setup on the rear, this time led by a 48-megapixel main lens. Both 5G phones have massive 4,500-mAh batteries and on-screen optical fingerprint sensors. They also come with 128GB of internal storage, 6GB of RAM and microSD slots, allowing you add up to TB of memory.
The Galaxy A51 5G differs from last year's Galaxy A50 in one key department: 5G. And that's the main reason why the new Galaxy is 30% more expensive than its $350 predecessor. The Galaxy A50 was launched in 2019 and at $350 (£309, AU$500) it's one of the cheapest Galaxy options from last year. It has a 6.4-inch display, an in-screen fingerprint reader and a headphone jack.
