Ubuntu One: Cloud storage service available on Windows

Ubuntu One is a popular cloud storage service similar to Dropbox, an application already available for Linux, Android, iPhone, and now Windows. Ubuntu One is preinstalled with Ubuntu and is considered a cloud storage service for Linux users. Ubuntu one has released a beta version for Windows with up to 5GB of storage for free.

After the Ubuntu application is started, you are provided with the option to log in with an existing Ubuntu One account or create a new one. A new account can be created directly from the Ubuntu One client as well as from the website.

After logging in, you can start uploading documents by placing them in the Ubuntu folder (like Dropbox). The files are added to the folder synced with your online account and available in all computers (where Ubuntu One is installed) and connected devices (Android or phone). The default location of the Ubuntu One folder in Windows is C: UsersusernameUbuntu One . You can add files or folders directly to this folder or use the Add a folder option from this computer from the Ubuntu One interface.

The Devices tab shows a full list of all devices connected to an Ubuntu One account.

The Settings tab has options to set a limited bandwidth for content synced with the Ubuntu One service (download and upload speeds). You can enable the option to start syncing Ubuntu One immediately after logging in to Windows, device notifications and syncing all shared files instantly when available.

Advantages of Ubuntu One: The most obvious thing about this operating system is that the interface is quite simple and familiar, when using the Synchronize function, the system will automatically create the Ubuntu One folder in My Document and start downloading. all personal data from the server. At the same time, the system only syncs data in the Ubuntu One folder. Besides, there are not too many properties to customize in the Settings section.

Restricting Ubuntu One: Due to the beta development phase, there are quite a few functions that don't work. Users cannot sync music files, note tomboy, calendar, contact, files outside of the Ubuntu One folder .

Ubuntu One beta for Windows seems to be quite interesting. A Windows-based cloud service is definitely a good step to diversify the market for Ubuntu Once users. And Ubuntu One could become a potential competitor to Dropbox in the future.

Current Ubuntu One for Windows is well compatible on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
