Two well-known anti-virus software encountered an error that prevented the application to open on Windows 10

Recently, some Windows 10 users discovered that they cannot run Microsoft Office applications and some other applications on their computers. When trying to do this, the user only gets a notification that Windows cannot find the application they are trying to open.

Initially, the cause was thought to be an update of Windows 10 or the antivirus software Avast encountered the error. However, it was later determined that AVG and Avast antivirus software had an error that prevented Windows 10 from opening applications.

Both AVG and Avast have the same error

In AVG and Avast antivirus software, there is a component that leads the way to the Image File Execution Options registry entries so that applications can run through a safety filter. However, a recent update of both AVG and Avast causes something in this filter to fail and results in applications that cannot be opened on Windows.

However, users should not worry because both AVG and Avast have released new updates to fix this problem. You can wait for AVG / Avast antivirus software to update itself or download and install the latest version yourself.

Microsoft has also confirmed this issue. Accordingly, both Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 1909, Windows 10 1903, Windows Server 2004, Windows Server 1909 and Windows Server 1903 are affected by this issue.
