Microsoft confirmed that some Windows 11 computers encountered an error that could not open applications
Microsoft has officially confirmed that Windows 11 users may experience errors when opening or using some available applications and features. The reason is because one of their digital licenses expired.
"Beginning November 1, 2021, some users may not be able to open or use some apps or parts of built-in apps if the update KB5006756 is not installed on the 21st. October 2021," Microsoft announced.
"The cause of the problem was a Microsoft digital license that expired on October 31, 2021. Devices running in S mode may be more prone to problems."
Here is a list of applications that may be affected on Windows 11 version 21H2:
- Snipping Tool
- Account page and landing page in Settings app (error only in S mode)
- Touchpad, Voice Typing and Emoji page
- Input Method Editor user interface (IME UI)
- Getting Started and Tips guide app
According to Microsoft, computers with errors can be fixed by installing update KB5006746 to applications such as Touch Keyboard, Voice Typing and the Emoji page, IME UI and Getting Started and Tips work again. However, there is no temporary fix for the Snipping Tool application.
Microsoft is currently looking for a fix for this problem.
