The move is said to be due to security reasons, many Snapchat applications are showing signs of Snapchat's security breach, making them require Microsoft to remove these applications. In November, Snapchat posted an article saying that although they liked the way developers tried to make Snapchat applications better, this would affect the security of users' information.

Previously, Windows Central said Snapchat will permanently lock any accounts that are using Snapchat illegally. A Microsoft spokesman said the reason Snapchat asked for this was because "Snapchat's decision to stop the APIs used in cross-platform applications".

Removing non-genuine Snapchat applications will make the Windows Phone platform with no choice for users if they want to use this application, because Snapchat basically doesn't develop the official application for this platform.
