Microsoft Defender for Endpoint encountered an error that could not be started on Windows Server
Microsoft has just confirmed a new issue that affects Windows Server devices. This error causes the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint security solution to fail to start on some systems.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (formerly known as Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection or Defender (ATP)) may not start or run on devices with Windows Server Core installed.
Also according to Microsoft's announcement, the issue only affects devices that have KB5007206 and later updates installed on Windows Server 2019 and updates KB5007205 or later on Windows Server 2022.
"After installing updates KB5007205 or later, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint may not start or run on devices with Windows Server Core installed," Microsoft explains on its "health" dashboard. Windows Server 2022.
In bad news, there is good news. According to Microsoft, this new issue does not affect Microsoft Defender for Endpoint running on Windows 10 devices.
Microsoft is currently working on a solution to the problem and will roll it out in an upcoming update.
In addition, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, the version of Microsoft Defender Antivirus for ordinary users, also encountered an error. Microsoft Defender Antivirus version between 1.353.1477.0 and 1.353.1486.0 crashes many times. Microsoft fixed the issue in update 1.353.1502.0.
Issues that appeared after the November update
Microsoft's November cumulative update KB5007206 and KB5007205 caused some problems for Windows users. Quite a few people get Windows Installer errors that crash applications after fixing or updating, problems connecting to remote printers.
The printer error has now been fixed by Microsoft with the preview cumulative update KB5007253 that rolled out last week.
