Is Jurassic World Rebirth the final installment of the Jurassic World series?

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecosystem has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs . The remaining creatures survive in isolated equatorial environments with climates similar to those in which they once thrived. The three largest creatures on land, sea, and air in that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will have miraculous life-saving benefits for humanity.

Academy Award nominee Johansson plays the brilliant covert operations specialist Zora Bennett, who is tasked with leading a team of specialists on a top-secret mission to protect genetic resources. When Zora's operation collides with a civilian family whose boat expedition is capsized by ferocious underwater dinosaurs, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that was once the undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain inhabited by a variety of dinosaurs, they come face-to-face with a shocking, horrifying discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.

How does Jurassic World Rebirth end?

After Duncan teams up with Zora and Henry, the film ends with the trio leaving the island. Now that they have the dinosaur DNA needed to create a cure for heart disease, Zora decides to give the new drug to the world, rather than hand it over to a pharmaceutical company for profit.

But there's still a lurking threat. While the previous three "Jurassic" films introduced a new dinosaur villain who was then killed off at the end, in "Rebirth," the Distortus rex is alive and kicking when the credits roll.

Edwards said he thought about this while editing the film and began to wonder whether the Tyrannosaurus rex should reappear and fight the D. rex. While considering creating a new ending where the T. rex returns, Edwards polled everyone on the set. It was the film's visual effects supervisor who advised him against it, telling Edwards, " That's what happens in every movie, Gareth! The T. rex shows up and solves everything, and everyone expects that. I'm glad you didn't do it. "

Edwards noted that leaving the Distortus rex alive doesn't necessarily set up its return in a possible sequel. But "it's hard to kill it unless there's another animal that can do it." This would lead to a similar ending to other "Jurassic" films.

The Future of "Jurassic World" After Jurassic World Rebirth

With Zora, Henry, and Duncan all surviving to fight another day at the end of "Rebirth," should fans expect them to reunite in future "Jurassic" movies?

Nothing is certain, but " it's hard to imagine them not being in the next movie ," Edwards said.

While no discussions about a sequel have taken place, the director also revealed that he has a specific concept in mind for where the series will go after "Rebirth", something he would rather not reveal in case the opportunity arises.

" As a fan, there's a certain kind of movie that I just look forward to with every incarnation ," he said. " I have a sense of what I want to see next ."
