How to Test RAM Speed on PC or Mac
Today's TipsMake will show you how to check the data transfer speed of the RAM chip (chip) on a Mac or Windows computer.
On Windows
Open the Start menu on your computer. Find and click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen to open the Start menu.
Type cmdin the Start menu search box. This will search through all programs and list matches on the Start menu. Command Prompt will be at the top of search results.
If you don't find the search box on the Start menu, just start typing on the keyboard. Some versions of Windows allow us to find programs by opening the Start menu and entering data without a search box.
Click the Command Prompt option at the top of the search results. The Command Prompt window will open.
Type wmic memorychip get speed. This command will test your RAM chip speed right on the Command Prompt window.
Press ↵ Enteron the keyboard. The command will be executed and a list of speed of each RAM chip will appear.
On Mac
Open the Utilities folder on your Mac computer. You can find it inside the Applications folder, or click the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner and use Spotlight Search to find it.
Double-click System Information . The System Information icon resembles a computer chip, located in the Utilities folder. After double clicking, the application will open in a new window.
Click Memory in the left pane. Find and open the Memory tab from the navigation pane on the left side of the System Information window. This card will display information about each RAM chip installed on the computer.
Check the speed of each chip in the Memory Slots table. This table lists all RAM chips installed on the computer, and displays the speed (Speed), size (Size), type (Type) and status (Status) of each RAM chip.
