How to Check the Version of macOS in Use

To find this information, select the Apple icon on the menu in the upper right corner of the screen and then select the About This Mac Command.

The name of the macOS release you installed appears on the Overview Tab in the results window. Below is the exact version number of the installed operating system.

In the screenshot below, this is the macOS High Sierra operating system version, version 10. 13. The version number recorded 10. 13. 4 is because this is the latest security update. Smaller updates are available in the Updates Tab in the Mac App Store app.

Note : If you are using an older version of the Mac operating system, it may be called "OS X" instead of macOS.

If you don't use the latest version of macOS, you can install it from Mac App Store - assuming your Mac hardware is still supported by Apple. To do this, select the "Software Update" button in the About This Mac window, to open the Mac App Store. You can also launch Mac App Store in another way - for example, by clicking its icon on the dock.

You can download and install the latest release of macOS on your Mac right from the app. However, you should back up your Mac before continuing to prevent a problem.
