Google launches its own password management app on Android

Google has just officially released the standalone Google Password Manager application on the Play Store, giving users direct access to the company's built-in password management tool.

The password manager has been built into Chrome and Android for some time now, allowing users to save, edit, and manage their logins seamlessly. But with its own app, Google is aiming to provide convenience and faster access rather than adding a whole new feature.

The timing of the launch is also notable. When users search for ' password manager ' on the Play Store, they often only see popular third-party services like Bitwarden, Proton Pass, or Enpass, but not Google's own solution. Having a presence in the app store will help Google assert its position more clearly in the password management market.

In terms of functionality, the app primarily functions as a shortcut to the existing password manager interface. Users can view and edit login data and customize settings. Additionally, the app supports enabling end-to-end encryption on the device , which protects passwords from unauthorized access, including from Google itself. This encryption is tied to the device's screen lock and can be enabled in Settings > Set up encryption on the device .

For most Android users, the arrival of the Google Password Manager app won't bring much of a change in experience, but it does open up a more convenient way to use a service that's already familiar in the Android ecosystem.

The app is now available on the Google Play Store, ready to download for anyone who wants to manage their passwords faster and more centrally.
