Google is about to release Gemini AI for kids under 13

Google is preparing to launch its Gemini AI chatbot for children under 13. The Google giant has started notifying parents via email that they will be able to control children's access to Gemini through the Family Link app . This is the first time a major company has offered an AI chatbot for children.

According to The New York Times, children under 13 can use Gemini to do homework or read stories. Google says children's conversations with Gemini will not be used to train AI models. However, Google warns parents that "Gemini can make mistakes" and that children "may encounter content you don't want them to see."

Despite these concerns, Google is still moving forward with the launch of Gemini AI for kids. We already know that misinformation is not yet solved in the field of AI, and AI chatbots often deliver false information. Meanwhile, children under 13 are not yet able to identify and differentiate between accurate and misleading information.

Additionally, young users are facing increasing issues with AI chatbots. Recently, a Florida teenager got into trouble after becoming too immersed in an AI character on Character.ai. Young users cannot differentiate between AI chatbots and real people if they go too far.

Google, in its email, also said that parents should talk to their children more so that they understand that AI is not human. And parents can turn off Gemini access through the Family Link app at any time.
