A recent post on Google's community management page says that the new Instagram update, version 382.0.0.49.84, fixes a bug that causes Android phones' batteries to drain quickly. Google community manager Aadil Shaikh wrote in a new "announcement" post on the support forum titled "Android Battery Drain Bug":

Hello Android Community, Starting today, Instagram is rolling out an app update to address battery drain issues on Android devices. Make sure you update to the latest version of Instagram (build 382.0.0.49.84) to resolve this issue.

Unfortunately, Google didn't specify which phones are affected or whether all Androids are affected. A quick check suggests that Samsung Galaxy devices are affected, at least the S24 model (via Reddit). Some Google Pixel devices are also likely affected.

You can update Instagram for Android to the latest version by going directly to the Google Play Store app.
