FBI takes 3-4 laptops / month

On February 12, the Inspector General of the US Department of Justice (IG) said that an average of 3 or 4 FBI laptops were lost or stolen every month.

According to the IG, the FBI is looking for ways to reduce the number of stolen laptops, but the Inspectorate has acknowledged and stated that "more work still needs to be done".

Lost laptops are still the headaches of the FBI

The Boston inspector's office reported the incident when a stolen computer installed software that identifies investigators' badges. Quantico's lab has reportedly lost a laptop that stored the contact books of many FBI employees. The office in New Orleans also said a lost laptop was used to handle digital images of suspects.

Perhaps the most fundamental problem for the FBI was that it could not be determined in many cases of laptop theft, whether the information stored was sensitive. Such information may include information from FBI cases, personally identifiable information or confidential files that are in place.

The latest report said that of the 160 laptops lost in 44 months, 10 had sensitive and top-secret data.

Previously, a report was published in 2002, the IG reported that there were 354 personal weapons and 317 laptop computers lost or stolen in 28 months, but there was no confirmation. Any data stored at that time.
