Turn off unnecessary startup services

Running with Windows core system programs on startup also has a range of services. Some need for Windows XP to work, but there are many services for features you may not need, which can be turned off. In general, the fewer services, the faster Windows XP starts.

To turn off the running service at startup, you can do two things: The first way is to enter the System Configuration Utility ( Start / Run , type msconfig , click OK ). The Services tab shows services that run or turn off when the computer starts. You can turn off the startup service by unchecking the service, and then clicking OK .

The second way is to access the Services management section. This is more widely used because its interface provides more information and a better description of the functions of the services. There are two ways to open the Services manager: go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services or select Start / Run , type services.msc , and then click OK .

In the Services Management section, you should pay attention to the Startup Type column. This column information lists whether the service is running automatically or manual. Self-service services only start in Windows XP when you start the process that requires that service. Some other processes may require that service in the case of a dependent contact, in which case the dependent service will also start. Because self-service does not run automatically when you start Windows XP, you do not need to do anything with auto-tuning services.

However, all services listed are automatic in the Startup Type column that will run when Windows XP starts. As mentioned above, many of these services are unnecessary, so you can stop the services automatically unless you don't know the consequences of turning off that service. You can get information about the service by looking at the Description column. Here are some services you can stop running when the computer starts:

Automatic Updates (Automatic Updates) : This service allows Windows XP to automatically check when the computer is connected to the Internet to update. If you do not want to use Automatic Updates, you can turn off this service. You can manually upload the Microsoft website for Windows updates.

3 services including computer browser (Computer Browser), DHCP Client and DNS Client can be turned off if the computer is not connected to the network.

Error Reporting and Event Log : It is okay to turn off this service, but it can be useful when the computer malfunctions (especially with technical support professionals), so you should configure it automatically.

Fax : If you do not use a computer to fax, you can turn off this service.

Help and Support : If you do not use Windows XP Help and Support Center (also available on the Start menu), you can turn off this service.

IMAPI CD-Burning COM : This service allows CD burning on computers. If you do not burn the CD or are using a dedicated CD burning software, you can turn off this service.

Indexing Service : The computer uses this service to index files but if you rarely find files, this service is considered redundant. You can turn off and switch to manual mode.

Infrared Monitor : If you do not use infrared devices, you can turn off this service.

Messenger : Allows sending alert messages on LAN (unlike Windows Messenger). If you do not use the network, you can turn off this service.

Print Spooler : If you do not print from the computer, you can turn off this service. If you need to print, it should be in automatic mode.

Remote Registry : Allows remote users to modify the Registry. If you do not use the network, you can turn off this service.

System Restore Service : This service allows you to use System Restore. If you have turned off System Restore, there is no need to turn off this service.

Windows Image Acquisition : If you don't use a scanner or digital camera, this service can be turned off.

Wireless Zero Configuration : If you do not use wireless networking devices, you can disable this service.

In addition, there may be some other automated services depending on the software and configuration on the computer. Therefore, it is best to carefully check the service. If you double-click a service, the Properties dialog box appears. On the General tab, in the Startup Type section, if you want to change the auto service to auto-tuning, select Manual , click OK . Often people do not turn off the service unless they are sure they will never use it. However, configuring self-tuning later if you find that the service needs to be switched on automatically, thus accelerating startup. Before changing the service to manual mode, look at the Dependencies tab. This card only shows you other translations depending on the service you are trying to change.
