ChatGPT has been greatly improved in terms of coding capabilities.
OpenAI has just revealed ChatGPT's ability to collaborate with a number of developer-focused macOS apps, namely VS Code, Xcode, TextEdit, Terminal, and iTerm2. Instead of having to copy and paste code into ChatGPT, the feature allows the chatbot to pull specified content from the coding app as you type in a text prompt. However, ChatGPT can't generate code directly into the app, whereas Cursor or GitHub Copilot can.
OpenAI also previously announced that its chatbot can now read data from more coding programs and IDEs. These include BBEdit, MatLab, Nova, Script Editor, and TextMate; Jetbrains IDEs like Android Studio, AppCode, CLion, DataGrip, GoLand, IntelliJ IDEA, PHPStorm, PyCharm, RubyMine, RustRover, and WebStorm; as well as VS Code forks like VSCode Insiders, VSCodium, Cursor, and WindSurf. ChatGPT will also now integrate with the Prompt and Warp terminal applications.
Notably, ChatGPT's interactivity is no longer limited to coding. The chatbot can now work with Apple Notes, Notion, and Quip for common text creation and editing tasks. OpenAI also announced that it is incorporating Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) into the ChatGPT desktop workflow. Users will be able to launch AVM in a separate window to answer questions and make suggestions as they work. In a demo on Thursday. In a recent demo, the OpenAI team asked AVM's Santa character to help create the perfect holiday song playlist.
All paid subscribers (Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise, and Edu) now have access to this expanded feature. To try it out for yourself, you'll need to manually select the app you want ChatGPT to interface with using the drop-down menu on AI's desktop UI.
