Google's AI-powered note-taking tool can now create explainer videos

Google 's AI-powered note-taking tool is getting a new feature that makes it more useful than ever. Along with the existing Audio Overviews, which turns your notes into podcasts with AI hosts, Video Overviews will turn your notes into explainer videos.

NotebookLM creates Video Overviews

At Google I/O 2025, Google announced that NotebookLM now has the ability to create Video Overviews. While the feature isn't ready for public use yet—Google can only say it's "coming soon"—the company has felt comfortable enough to preview it in a few different ways.

This official announcement confirms the Video Overviews feature that was spotted earlier in May.

NotebookLM's Video Overviews work the same way as existing Audio Overviews, just with video instead of audio. They take your notes on a topic and turn them into an explanatory video. However, unlike Audio Overviews, Video Overviews can include visual elements like photos, images, diagrams, etc.

AI-generated video has been around for a while, but the results have been mixed. While AI-generated stills are finally catching on, video has lagged behind for obvious reasons. But NotebookLM's Video Overviews look incredibly impressive in preview, as you can see below.

This is likely a work in progress that will become more impressive over time, but honestly, if the preview Google provided above is anything to go by, it's impressive enough that many of us will swear we'll be using it when it launches.

The perfect tool for visual learners

The key point of Video Overviews in NotebookLM is that they help visual learners absorb information better when it is presented in a visual way. And Google sought to prove this fact by having NotebookLM create Video Overviews that summarize notebooks of important announcements from Google I/O 2025.

More than an official preview, it comes with some caveats about simulation for demonstration purposes, which shows the potential power of this feature. Google made a lot of announcements at I/O 2025, so for NotebookLM to summarize them so succinctly is quite an accomplishment.

NotebookLM is already a great tool but may be underused by those who are completely up to date with the AI ​​craze. Thanks to the Audio Overviews feature going viral, more people are discovering NotebookLM, so hopefully the Video Overviews feature will have a similar impact when it launches, especially since NotebookLM is now available on both mobile and web.
