X adds a 'Dislike' button for responses you don't like

How many times have you wished you could 'Dislike' an X (formerly Twitter) reply on a post, especially during these challenging times? Interestingly, there was recently mention of developing a Dislike button on X.

Found a lot of evidence about the Dislike (Downvote) button

There's no point in pretending that we all love everything we read on X. There are so many different opinions on there, especially after Elon Musk bought Twitter and made many changes for it immediately. So why isn't there a Dislike button?

It looks like the Dislike button could be another change Musk will bring to X. Engineer Aaron Perris posted on X a photo of what he saw during development.

There is also a video of the Dislike button being used by another X user. Trying out the button is only available on replies and not on tweets, but it's unknown if that might change at some point.

Additionally, employee X's Threads account shared a video about a possible new way to expand replies, and the Dislike button was also seen in it. That post didn't last long before being replaced with a video that didn't display a Dislike button.

The need for the Dislike button

It's not necessary to have a Dislike button on X, but it is necessary to be able to express dissatisfaction in some way. Although Facebook doesn't have a Downvote button, it does have a variety of responses, including like, love, interested, wow, sad, funny, and angry.

For example, if the article is talking about someone's death, you don't want to like that. You want to express love, care or sadness. If someone mentions that they were fired, you don't want to endorse it but rather express concern, sadness, or anger.

However, with Twitter, all you can do is express your approval with your heart. It is certainly necessary to express some dissatisfaction with a post, but it is not necessary to oppose it. Instead, if you don't like something because it's sensitive, learn how to disable that type of content.

It's up to Musk and everyone else at But if the new Dislike button doesn't pass the test, we may never see it.
