What are Copilot Labs?

Generative Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) is still evolving in many aspects, and some of the new AI-based features that companies are developing still need further refinement before being widely released. Therefore, many companies initially deploy features to smaller test groups, and Microsoft will begin doing the same.

At Ignite 2024, Microsoft announced several updates to Copilot, including new tools like Copilot Voice, Think Deeper, and Copilot Vision. However, not all of these features are available to the public. Instead, experimental features will be housed in a new section: Copilot Labs.

Copilot Labs works similarly to Google Labs, bringing together experimental features still under development in one place, so users can easily access, try them out, and provide feedback that can be incorporated into future product development.

Upon launch, Copilot Labs will include two experimental features: Copilot Vision and Think Deeper. Both features will expand upon what Copilot already offers, adding new layers of support for users.

How to use Copilot Labs

Whether you just want to browse through the available features of Copilot Labs or want to try out some of them, you can do so by visiting the Copilot Labs website.

The homepage will show you the available trials to use. Remember to log in in the upper right corner of the page before you begin to ensure you have full access to the features.

Select the feature you want to try, then an explanation of the experiment will appear, including how it works and how you can access the demo. Then, you can click the "Try Now" button at the top of the page to go to the experiment.

As mentioned above, you may encounter issues or bugs because these features are in early access, so be prepared for any problems. You can then send feedback directly to Microsoft about any issues you encounter so they can fix them.

Microsoft Copilot comes in several different versions, with pricing plans tailored to various use cases, such as:

  1. Copilot (Free): The free version provides access to AI-generated features for PC management (in Windows), online search (in Edge), and general chatbot conversations on the web.
  2. Copilot Pro: Designed for individual users who want to take full advantage of AI generation. At approximately $20 per month per user, this version provides access to Copilot in a variety of tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
  3. Copilot for Microsoft 365: This version is for individuals and teams working with Microsoft applications. It includes access to Copilot Studio, enterprise-grade security, privacy and compliance, and advanced capabilities.
