Useful Tips for Acquiring PMI PMP Certification with 5A

I have been working in Embedded Development for ten years, namely the so-called project manager. For a long time, my project management methods are summarized from my actual working environment.

I did not have systematic learning experience. Until I heard from my friend the PMP certificate, I started to systematize my project management knowledge. Today, I would like to make a summary of my PMP exam prep here training and share my feeling with you. My preparation time roughly lasted 3 months.

The first step was to watch teaching videos by utilizing segmented pieces of time. I followed the instruments of our training teacher, Mr. Wang. Everyday, I had to spend three hours on the road to work. Therefore, the three-hour was my precious time to watch videos. I downloaded videos on the mobile phone, making full use of segmented pieces of time.

The step two was to summarize key knowledge points on the combination of textbook content and video courses. Suggested by my teacher, it is better to read the PMBOK three times. Fortunately, my working experience is related to project management, so I could understand what the book is talking about when I first read it. The second I read it, I would read one chapter and watch corresponding teaching video so that I could further understand the knowledge, which was also the easiest way for me to grasp key content. During the whole process, I would utilize the time on the way to work and returning home to review and consolidate my understanding. SPOTO provides an app where I could do PMP exam sample questions. Therefore, I read PMBOK in the morning, doing questions on the app and summarize what I had learnt in the day at night.

When it comes to the third stage, I started doing the PMP sample tests to discover my weaknesses, engage in discussion with my classmate and improve my thinking ability. The third stage is very crucial, the later stage of the PMP exam prep, determining whether you can pass the exam. You may feel tired. Persist and you can feel very rewarding. You can send the questions that you do not understand to the discussion group and communicate with your classmates. PMI attaches importance to the process of thinking instead of the correctness of the questions. Because some questions do not have standard answers. The process of exchanging opinions and discussing is more important.

The stage four is the sprinting stage. Near the exam, keep your pace and conditions. I got 129 scores for the first sample test. The second time was 133. Then, it came to 140 and 150 more. Basically, the score was around 140 and 150. After doing all the questions, I began doing the questions again. Every question I did two or three times. One week before the exam, I had no questions to do. Then, I bought another question book to do.

On the exam date, the PMP exam started at 9 am. We were required to enter the exam site at 8 am. We were not allowed to get out before the exam started. During the exam, candidates were only allowed to go out for one time. The exam lasted for 4 hours, which really tests your tolerance and patience.

The primary factor you should consider when taking the exam is time allocation. In regular tests, I could finish 200 questions in 2 hours and 15 mins, or slower 2 hours and 45 mins, in average 2 and a half hours. However, in the real exam site, not until the end of the exam, did I finish the test, so you need to leave enough time for filling the answer sheet, at least half an hour.

To sum up, PMI PMP exam is not that difficult, as long as you follow the schedule of the training institution and follow the pace of the whole class, can you make it. I hope that you can not only acquire the PMP PMI certification but learn the excellent project management methods and apply them in your work.
