The last macOS also supports external GPUs

Last June, Apple announced that it would support external GPUs for macOS. And it took nearly a year for this statement to become a reality.

The latest macOS High Sierra update 10.13.4 allows the Mac to use multiple graphics cards via Thunderbolt 3 port and thereby accelerate high-demand operations such as gaming, video editing. Apple also particularly emphasized the benefits of using virtual reality.

This is not surprising, but there are some limitations to using external GPUs. Only the selected categories will be officially supported. and surprisingly, Apple only supports AMD's Radeon card, which is currently used on the Mac. This also does not mean that the GeForce card cannot be used, but you will have to bet a little because you do not know if there is long-term support.

Users also cannot use external GPUs on Windows via Boot Camp. And using an external GPU on a macOS doesn't mean you can do anything because the developer must support it too.

Finally, there will be a new Mac to the extent needed because the external GPU relies on super fast speed thanks to Thunderbolt 3, ie MacBook Pro 2016, 2017 and iMac Pro.

Anyway, if you have a new device and are using a supported application, this is fine, because external GPUs, which are not on the Mac, are very popular in the gaming community.

One of the benefits of Thunderbolt 3 is to increase such flexibility. Just spend a few hundred dollars more, now the compact Mac that comes out is still strong enough for high-demand tasks.

9. View integrated eGPU and GPU activity by opening Activity Monitor> Window> GPU History.
