Take photos on a smartphone more artistic at a rate of 1/3
As one of the most popular and popular photography ratios today, a third is considered to be a heartbreaking lesson for anyone who steps into a photographic path. Bring a new and more artistic look to the picture, so the 1/3 ratio not only applies to those who take photos with the camera but we can also use it on smartphones.
1. 1/3 concept in photography:
Each picture has a certain subject and becomes the highlight of the picture. 1/3 ratio is used as a net made up of two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. Subjects will be placed on grid lines or on their intersection points to add depth and impression to the image.
2. How to use 1/3 ratio in smartphone photography?
1. Use a 1: 3 ratio photo capture application
There are a number of imaging applications that can help us create 1/3 scale grid lines such as Camera +, ProCamera 8 or VSCO. When we open those applications, you will see lines and intersections, but may not see the grid.
- Download the ProCamera 8 application
- Download the VSCO app
When using your phone's default camera, we can activate the grid lines by going to Settings - Photo & Camera and turning on the Grid, you can use the grid in the iPhone's cropping tool to adjust Back an image error, dissatisfied about the ratio.
2. Put the subject in one of 4 strengths:
Put subjects into strong points to create more impressive and natural photos.
In the picture below, the white boat is located at the strong left corner, those invisible paths will lead the viewer to the boat. When shooting people, they should put their eyes on a pixel and they look at the camera.
3. Set the horizon in landscape photos:
When photographing landscapes, this ratio is even more important. If your subject is the sky, place the horizon line that matches the lowest line. On the contrary, if the subject is a scene below the ground, let the horizon line coincide with the most level. In this way, viewers will focus more on the subject you want to emphasize as heaven or earth instead of placing the horizon between the frame or distorting the horizon.
4. Balance photos diagonally:
1/3 ratio makes 9 squares. By using these squares, you can balance the composition of a photo by placing the subject in a corner of the square and the second subject into the square.
3. Breaking the 1/3 shooting rule?
Rules about scales will help to create an image highlight, but it doesn't always mean to rely on it. Initially, you will learn about the basic rules in photography, you can be banned from breaking them. But depending on the situation, we can create new and more interesting layouts.
Try taking multiple photos with different highlights, shadows, and shapes and different frames.
