The service, which launched in 2005, aggregates imagery from a variety of sources, from satellites in geostationary orbit that take low-resolution photos from tens of thousands of miles above Earth, to satellites closer to Earth that take higher-resolution photos, and even aerial photos taken from planes, kites, drones, and even balloons.
