Should I upgrade to the new PS5 Slim? Here is the answer

Sony has just announced a new, thinner PlayStation 5 (PS5) model called PlayStation 5 Slim, expected to be officially released during the holiday season at the end of 2023. Besides the slimmer design, the new variant also brings some improvements over the current PS5 in several other hardware aspects.

The question is, if you already own a PS5, should you upgrade to the Slim version? Let's find out the main differences between the two variants below.

Size difference

One of the most frequent complaints that Sony has received about the PS5 product line since its launch is its rather bulky size. In fact, both PS5 and Xbox Series more display.

The PS5 Slim basically still has the same overall design as the regular PS5, but has been scaled down. The volume in the PS5 Slim's compartment is 30% smaller, and the weight is 18% - 24% lighter than the regular PS5 (without or with a drive).

The new PS5 model now has 1TB SSD capacity instead of 850GB. An extra 150GB isn't huge, but if the extra capacity is all you need, remember that you can fit a multi-terabyte SSD into the current PS5's expansion slot for much less. compared to the price of a brand new PS5.

There will be no performance improvement

When you put the specs of the old and new PS5 models side by side, you won't be able to find a performance difference on paper. Both use the same chip running at the same speed. In other words, this is absolutely not the PS5 "Pro" we got with the PS4 Pro. Therefore, there will be almost no actual performance difference between the PS5 and PS5 Slim.

PS5 is usually about to be discontinued

The PS5 Slim design is considered an official replacement for the original PS5 model. According to Sony, once the regular PS5 inventory is sold out, the company will officially "discontinue" this version. Therefore, unless there is an attractive discount, there is no reason for you to choose to buy the old model.
