R7000 will take up quite a lot of space due to bulky and horizontal design. But this ensures that it will get absolute stability.

This router has 3 detachable external antennas. You can mount it on the wall, if there is not enough space on the shelf or desk.

Despite the plastic casing, the R7000 feels quite sturdy. The case doesn't have a glossy finish, so you don't need to worry about fingerprints reprinting the entire device.

Establish

The Netgear R7000 is easy to set up, similar to the previous Netgear R model.

The R7000 comes with a built-in WiFi network username and password printed under the router. Because you came with a built-in username and password, you can plug in the device, turn it on and connect to start accessing the Internet immediately. You also don't need to worry if you accidentally lose your username and password on the router.

During initial startup, R7000 will automatically direct you to the Netgear Genie browser interface.

Here, you can find the necessary details related to your specific device login information. You can then decide to write or print it for future reference.

Configuration changes can be made using the Netgear Genie application or through the router's default IP address (usually 192.168.1.1).

Technical data

  1. WiFi Speed: 802.11ac AC1900 (up to 1,900Mbps)
  2. WiFi range: 167m square
  3. Port: 4 x 1G
  4. Additional features: Beamforming and Smart Connect

Feature

R7000 comes with a number of features to improve overall performance. For starters, it uses the AC1900 code, that is, in combination with the Broadcom BCM4708A chipset.

This chipset helps improve overall throughput from 450Mbps to a maximum of 600Mbps. This is achieved through Netgear's patented Turbo QAM technology.

You can also increase this speed to 1,900Mbps, combined with the maximum throughput of 1,300Mbps, that the 802.11ac standard can provide.

While other routers use advanced technology such as quad core, Netgear R7000 has dual core processor. However, R7000 has fully optimized the properties and potential of this dual core processor. R7000's ARM Cortex A9 800MHz can provide 1GHz.

The R7000's WiFi range benefits greatly from Beamforming technology. This feature allows the router to increase the signal, by focusing on the direction of the connected device, instead of transmitting the signal in a radius.

Some of the additional features that R7000 provides are VPN and guest network support. Users can also set up personalized free URLs for use with FTP servers. The R7000 comes with 256MB of RAM and 128GB of flash memory, sufficient to provide a stable and reliable performance.

R7000 still has some shortcomings. An example of its weakness is that there is only one USB 2.0 port. This prevents R7000 from being used as a bridge and will not be able to provide cloud access support. This is a huge drawback since most current router models have these features built-in.

But overall, this is still a pretty good and reliable option.
