Microsoft Senior Manager Admits 'Mac Is Better Than Windows 11'
"If Ballmer were still CEO, I would have been fired for this tweet" - Merill Fernando, head of product management at Microsoft, humorously shared on X (Twitter), after his personal opinion that 'Apple's macOS is superior to Windows 11' became a topic of much interest.
The post, which was accompanied by a viral meme image of Katy Perry - the singer kissing the ground upon returning from a short space trip - was meant to imply a "sigh of relief" when using a Mac. Although it was just a joke, this somewhat 'controversial' post from a senior Microsoft manager still caused a storm with more than 700,000 views and 11,000 likes, proving the strong appeal of the "Windows vs Mac" confrontation.
As the above tweet went viral, Fernando revealed more about his favorite work device that he uses every day:
- MacBooks provided by Microsoft: The Redmond company lets employees choose between a Mac or a Windows PC.
- Mac Studio for personal projects: Podcasts, newsletters, open source.
- Windows App on macOS: Access Microsoft services like DevBox remotely.
- Parallels: Run Windows virtual machines when needed.
Regarding working tools, Fernando shares tips for increasing productivity with Raycast (software to quickly open applications), customizing shortcuts to switch between Teams, Outlook, VSCode, Terminal. Browsers are also clearly divided into roles: Edge for work, Arc for entertainment.
Despite working in Redmond, Fernando is not afraid to express his personal preference for Apple's rival Mac ecosystem, as well as his view on optimizing work performance instead of expressing 'unconditional loyalty'. This also shows the open culture in Microsoft's current working environment.
