How to use ChatGPT widget on Android
OpenAI's ChatGPT app now offers widgets for Android devices. You can add it to your home screen and quickly enter reminders using image, text, voice query or conversation mode.
Today's article will show you how to add and use this widget.
Add ChatGPT widget to Android home screen
Before you continue, you'll need to update the ChatGPT Android app - if you're using any version older than 1.2024.052, you can't create this handy home screen widget. Currently, there is only one variation of the ChatGPT widget: 4x2 option.
To add widgets, follow the steps below, but note that they may vary slightly by device:
- Unlock your device, then press and hold an empty space on the home screen.
- Select Widgets from the options at the bottom.
- Tap the search bar and type "ChatGPT".
- Press and hold the ChatGPT widget and drag it to the position you want on the home screen.
Use ChatGPT widget on Android
ChatGPT Widget allows you to enter any query with just one tap. To enter a text query, tap the Message field on the ChatGPT widget and start typing your prompt.
You can tap the camera or image icon to query images, but you'll need to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus subscription for this feature to work. You can also tap the microphone icon to enter a prompt with your voice, or the headset icon to switch to conversation mode.
No matter where you tap the widget, your Android device will launch the ChatGPT app in full screen mode. Unfortunately, it seems that this widget is nothing more than a shortcut to open and use the ChatGPT app on your mobile device in its current state. A minimalist overlay of an AI chatbot would be better.
On the plus side, you don't have to waste time searching for ChatGPT app on your Android device. However, the ChatGPT widget may need more space on your home screen, especially if you have added some widgets or Android apps. However, you can always add a new home screen page to create more space.
