How to Open DWG Files

Use Microsoft Visio

Launch Microsoft Visio and click 'File. '

Click 'Open '.

Select 'AutoCAD Drawing (*.dwg; *.dxf)' from the 'Files of type' file type list.

Navigate to the DWG file you want to open, then click 'Open. ' Visio will open and display the DWG file.

Use A360 Viewer

Navigate to the A360 Viewer download page on the AutoDesk website at https://a360.autodesk.com/viewer . This freely available online tool from AutoDesk allows you to view any DWG file without having to install additional software or browser plug-ins.

Click 'Upload Your Design '.

Drag and drop the DWG file into the online page window. A360 Viewer will automatically open and display the DWG file in the tool's viewer.

Alternatively, you can click 'Upload Files' or choose to download DWG files from Dropbox, Box or Google Drive.

Use AutoCAD 360

Navigate to the AutoCAD 360 download page on the AutoDesk website at https://www.autocad360.com/free-cad-software/ . AutoCAD 360 is a free app that allows you to open and view DWG files on iOS, Android, or Windows devices.

Choose to download AutoCAD 360 to your computer or device.

Download and install AutoCAD 360 to your device just like you would with other applications. iOS users are instructed to download AutoCAD 360 from the App Store or iTunes, while Android users will download the software from the Google Play Store.

After installation is complete, open AutoCAD 360 on the device.

Select the DWG file you want to open. AutoCAD 360 will automatically open and display the DWG file in the utility's viewer.

If the DWG file is stored in Dropbox, Box or Egnyte: Click the side menu, select 'Connect' under Actions, log in to your account, then select the file DWG that you want to open. The server address will be https://dav.box.com/dav for Box accounts and http://mycompany.egnyte.com/webdav for Egnyte accounts.

Resovle problem

Try opening the DWG file with a newer version of AutoCAD if you encounter the invalid file error 'Drawing file is not valid. ' This error often appears when you open a newer DWG file using an older version of AutoCAD. For example, you should not use AutoCAD 2012 to open a DWG file that was created in AutoCAD 2015, use AutoCAD 2015 to open it.

Quit all third-party applications running in AutoCAD if you cannot open the DWG file. Third-party applications that integrate with AutoCAD may interfere with opening DWG files.

If you still cannot open it, you need to check to see if the DWG file was created from AutoCAD or not. A DWG file may be corrupted if it was created from sources other than AutoCAD or Autodesk products.
