Short answer: Windows 11 does not have an official desktop version of the full Google Play Store. Older guides that install Google Play by modifying Windows Subsystem for Android are no longer a safe default.
Why the old Windows Subsystem for Android method is obsolete
Microsoft states that Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore have not been available in the Microsoft Store since March 5, 2025. Modified WSA packages that add Google services are unofficial and may introduce security, account, or update problems.
See Microsoft’s mobile apps on Windows notice for the current status.
Use Google Play Games for supported games
Google Play Games is Google’s official Windows option for a supported catalog of Android games. It is not the complete Play Store and does not install arbitrary Android apps.
- Open the official Google Play Games for PC page.
- Check the current hardware and virtualization requirements.
- Download the Windows installer from Google and complete the setup.
- Sign in and choose a game from the supported PC catalog.
Options for Android apps that are not supported
First check whether the service offers a web app or a native Windows version. If it does not, using the app on an Android device is the lowest-risk option.
An Android emulator may run additional apps, but it is not an official Play Store installation for Windows. Download an emulator only from its official publisher, review its permissions and privacy terms, keep it updated, and avoid modified installers or preloaded APK bundles.
What to avoid
- Patched WSA packages from file-sharing sites.
- Installers that ask you to disable Windows security features.
- Unknown APK files or bundled download managers.
- Claims that the full Play Store can be added to Windows with no compatibility or security tradeoffs.
