How to get Google Maps alerts when driving in the wrong direction

Google Maps has become an integral part of travel for many people. It tells users the exact destination they are traveling to, road conditions and distance traveled.

In addition, Google Maps also has a system to alert you when you drive in the wrong direction. Here are the steps to activate the alert.

Note that this feature has only been implemented in specific countries at the present time, with wider release plans in the future.

Get Google Maps notifications when driving in the wrong direction on Android

Open the Google Maps application on your phone. At the top of the page in the search bar, enter the name of the destination you want to go to.

Click Directions and a new marker will appear on the screen connecting the current location to the destination.

Touch the Stay Safer button near the bottom of the screen. This part of the application is specifically added to the program to provide a safer travel experience for users, whether they are driving a vehicle or sitting in a passenger seat, depending on the driver to Take them to the right destination.

A new list of options will appear. Scroll down the list until you see the section titled Get Off-Route Alerts . Choose this option.

You will now receive a warning every time you drive in the wrong direction or if the program detects that you are not following the marked path.

Remember that the warning works after moving 0.5km in the wrong direction, just in case the driver returns to the previous road.

If you want to turn off the warning, just press the Stop button near the top of the screen highlighted in blue.

What to do next?

If you are driving the vehicle, you can easily correct the error and return to the correct path yourself. On the other hand, there will be times when you sit in the passenger seat and suspect that the driver is taking you in the wrong direction. In such cases, Google Maps allows you to share your live location with your contacts.

1. Go to the Directions section and click on it.

2. Go to Stay Safer and select Share live trip on the app. This option will also display at the bottom of the screen in off-line alert mode.

3. Clicking on this feature will allow you to send your location directly to anyone in your contact list during the drive.
