Players can update their game files by running the Steam auto update feature. If the player doesn't have automatic updates turned on, they can do the manual update with some simple steps as follows:

1. Right click on Valheim in your Steam library.
2. Click on Properties from the drop-down menu.

Usually, the Valheim server will update at the same time as the game, but if that doesn't happen, you will be forced to install the Valheim server update with the instructions below:

1. Download and install SteamCMD Here
2. Create a directory for the server.
3. Create the file update.bat in Valheim's installation directory.
4. Type C: SteamCMDteamcmd + anonymous login + force_install_dir C: Valheim
5. + app_update 896660 validate + exit to file and save.
6. Run the update.bat file to force the updates to be installed.

If these steps are done correctly, the error of the incompatible Valheim version will be fixed once your version of the game matches the version of the remote server.
