How to fix Incompatible Version Valheim

Vahheim is currently a very popular survival game, with a skyrocketing player count and the developer boasting stellar sales that seem to guarantee Valheim a bright future ahead. But that bright future is only possible if people can actually join and play the game.

Currently, there are quite a few players who are experiencing the Incompatible Version Valheim error, which prevents them from playing the game. This error occurs whenever the client and server of the game are not running the same instance. To fix this issue, players should make sure both servers are using the same version of Valheim and it's the latest version.

How to fix Incompatible Version Valheim

The best way to fix this problem at the earliest is to update your game file to the game version of the remote server.

Players can update their game files by running the Steam auto update feature. If the player doesn't have automatic updates turned on, they can do the manual update with some simple steps as follows:

1. Right click on Valheim in your Steam library.
2. Click on Properties from the drop-down menu.
3. Click the Update tab and download any pending updates

Once players have successfully updated their game files, they will need to make sure that the remote server is also updated to the latest version.

Usually, the Valheim server will update at the same time as the game, but if that doesn't happen, you will be forced to install the Valheim server update with the instructions below:

1. Download and install SteamCMD Here
2. Create a directory for the server.
3. Create the file update.bat in Valheim's installation directory.
4. Type C: SteamCMDteamcmd + anonymous login + force_install_dir C: Valheim
5. + app_update 896660 validate + exit to file and save.
6. Run the update.bat file to force the updates to be installed.

If these steps are done correctly, the error of the incompatible Valheim version will be fixed once your version of the game matches the version of the remote server.
