The newly launched trio of iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr are the first three iPhones to support 2 SIMs. However, it seems that this feature of Dual SIM of Apple may cause users to be disappointed.

  1. 2 physical SIM as usual
  2. 1 physical SIM + 1 eSIM (electronic sim card can activate services via QR code, not physical sim card from network).

Currently, in addition to two global providers, GigSky and Truphone, only 14 operators in 10 countries support eSIM. But in the future there will certainly be many operators around the world supporting this new standard.

Note:

If your iPhone is a locked version, even if you are using the main SIM from CDMA-based networks, the second SIM will not support CDMA. Therefore, you must use the iPhone unlock if you want to use 2 different networks.

The operator will provide you with a QR code package to use eSIM. It can store multiple eSIMs at the same time but only one eSIM can be used at a time.

Currently, Apple only provides physical iPhone Xs or Xs Max 2 SIM versions like regular phones in China, Hong Kong and Macau markets. In Vietnam, there is no network that supports eSIM yet, so you will have to use the portable iPhone temporarily so you want to use the 2-SIM physical version.
