Sons of the Forest Console Commands and Cheat Guide

Enable the Sons of the Forest developer console and use practical commands for items, building, movement, AI, companions, time, and survival without risking your main save.

Table of Contents

Sons of the Forest includes a developer console that can enable invulnerability, add items, change time and seasons, control AI, and speed up building. The console is built into the PC version, so you do not need a third-party trainer just to use the commands below.

Back up your save first. Console commands can disrupt quests, companion behavior, building physics, and progression. Use them in a test save or single-player game whenever possible, and remember that commands may change after a game update.

How to enable the console

  1. Load into a saved game and take control of your character.
  2. Without opening chat or a menu, type cheatstick. The text does not appear on screen.
  3. Press F1. A command console should open.
  4. Type a command, add any required value, and press Enter.
  5. Press F1 again to hide the console.

Commands are normally entered without quotation marks. In the tables below, text in square brackets is a placeholder: enter the value itself and omit the brackets. Many toggles accept on or off.

Useful player and inventory commands

CommandWhat it does
godmode onPrevents normal player death and keeps survival needs filled. Use godmode off to disable it.
buffstatsRefills the player's survival statistics.
regenhealthRestores player health.
energyhack onPrevents energy from depleting until switched off.
speedyrun onEnables much faster movement. Turn it off before entering tight spaces.
superjump onEnables unusually high jumps. Falling can put the character in unsafe terrain.
addallitemsAdds a broad set of items to the inventory and may clutter or disrupt progression.
removeallitemsClears inventory items. Do not use it unless the save is backed up.
addallstoryitemsAdds story-related items and can bypass intended progression.
additem [item name]Adds the named item when the console recognizes that name.
removeitem [item name]Removes the named item.
saveRequests a save from the current game state.

Adding a specific item

Use additem [item name] and replace the placeholder with the console name of the item. For example, an item whose recognized name is “flashlight” would use additem flashlight. If a display name contains spaces, the internal console name may differ.

The console also exposes item-ID commands, but old ID lists often contain translation errors or become incomplete after updates. Use the in-console command list and test one item at a time instead of editing PlayerInventorySaveData by hand. Direct save-file edits are easier to corrupt and are unnecessary for most players.

Building, movement, and world commands

CommandWhat it does
instantbookbuild onBuilds a selected blueprint immediately.
buildermode onEnables a group of building-friendly effects; turn it off when testing normal survival.
loghack onProvides logs for building without normal collection.
treescutallCuts trees in the surrounding area. Save first because the effect can be extensive.
gotocoords [x] [z] [y]Moves the player to specified coordinates. A bad destination can place the character underground or out of bounds.
settimeofday [hour]Sets the time of day using an accepted hour value.
locktimeofday [hour]Locks the world at a specified time until changed or disabled.
season [season]Changes the season; use a recognized value such as summer or winter.
forcerain [weather]Changes rain or weather behavior when given a supported value.
showfps onDisplays the frame-rate counter.
showhud offHides the HUD; use showhud on to restore it.

AI and companion commands

CommandWhat it does
addcharacter robby 1Spawns one Kelvin. The console uses “robby” for this companion command.
addcharacter virginia 1Spawns one Virginia.
aipause onPauses AI processing until switched off.
aidisable onDisables AI. Use aidisable off to restore it.
aidummy onMakes AI ignore normal awareness of the player.
aigodmode onMakes affected AI invulnerable.
aiangerlevel [number]Adjusts the global AI anger value.
aianimspeed [number]Changes AI animation speed; 1 is the normal reference value.
aishowstats onDisplays AI debugging statistics.
airadar onDisplays debug markers for nearby AI.

Spawning duplicate companions can produce pathfinding, save, or story problems. If Kelvin or Virginia is missing because of normal story events, restoring a backup is safer than adding multiple copies.

Commands to use with extra caution

  • Story and ending flags: commands such as setexitedendgame can skip or break progression.
  • Destructive world commands: tree, structure, entity, and radius commands can remove large amounts of content.
  • Scene-loading commands: internal commands that load or unload scenes are debugging tools, not ordinary fast travel.
  • Multiplayer commands: spawning items or changing AI can affect other players and the host's save. Use them only with the host's agreement.
  • Graphics and physics commands: unsupported values can cause severe visual glitches, poor performance, or a crash.

The F1 list includes many internal development commands whose names do not explain their arguments. A command appearing in the console does not guarantee that it is safe or useful in a normal save.

If the console does not open

  • Type cheatstick during live gameplay, not in the pause menu or chat.
  • Press F1 after typing. On some laptops, use Fn+F1 or change the function-key mode.
  • Check that the game window has keyboard focus and that your keyboard layout entered the letters normally.
  • Restart the game and try again in a local single-player save.
  • If a command is rejected after an update, open the console and check the current autocomplete list for its spelling or accepted arguments.

How to undo a cheat

For an on/off command, enter the same command with off. Restore the HUD or normal movement before saving. Commands that add items, remove objects, alter story flags, or spawn companions may not have a clean reverse command; load the backup save if the result is not what you expected.
