Chrome on Linux, Mac and Windows will have the default Picture-in-Picture mode
Chromium technology evangelist at Google Francois Beaufort recently announced that the Picture-in-Picture feature will be enabled by default on versions of the browser on Linux, Mac and Windows.
Google engineers have been working for months to add Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support to the Google Chrome browser, but so far this feature has been officially released, enabled by default for sessions. Desktop version is Linux, Mac and Windows.
Users are no stranger to PiP, the feature that separates the video player into another small window and stays on the main window to both work and watch videos.
"After months of work, I'm proud to share with you that the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature is now enabled by default on Chrome for Linux, Mac and Windows," Francois Beaufort said."This will allow you to watch the video on a separate window (located on another window) to continue watching while still working with other pages or applications".
Picture in Picture feature helps to watch videos on other web sites
Chrome PiP only works on websites that have developed this feature on their multimedia player, but you can turn on any page yourself with the Picture-in-Picture extension developed for Francois Beaufort. With YouTube, users have to right click twice on the video and select 'Picture in Picture'.
Desktop platforms are turned on by default, but with Chromebook OS being Chrome OS or on Android, users will have to wait a while. You can now enable PiP support at chrome: // flags / # enable-surfaces-for-videos
The current version of Chrome is Chrome 70, which was launched last week with a new login process, improving support for PWA applications, new search widgets based on the Material Design design for Android, the new Download menu along with Many security bugs are fixed.
