Avoid accidental bumps with Touchpad while typing

One option is to plug in a USB mouse, but even using that method won't solve the problem because some laptops still allow the touchpad component to be activated when an external mouse is present.

However, through searching and performing some tests of mouse settings in Windows, we found that this problem can be completely overcome. But because different laptops have different touchpad systems and driver control systems are different, so the solution here cannot be identical.

Start by opening Control Panel then double clicking on Mouse . If you see the Device Select tab, click it and activate Disable TouchPad when USB pointing device is present .

For example, on our tested Acer Aspire computer, currently running Windows XP, we have to click on the Device Settings tab, then go to the Settings button and observe Synaptics' touchpad options. We found what was needed in Sensitivity, PalmCheck : By moving the slider closer to Maximum, the touchpad becomes slower and will not move accidentally when you type.

On a Vista-based notebook, we found the Tapping tab in the Mouse Properties window. Here, we enabled "Tap off when typing", an option that keeps the touchpad from recognizing light touches while you're typing. If your laptop doesn't have this option, then you need to search for certain options like that.

We recently saw a Samsung Q310 laptop and discovered a very interesting feature here: a function lock switch that can turn on or turn off the touchpad function. If this function is available, nothing can be simpler.

Another way to fix the problem with Touchpad

The solutions presented above may not guarantee working on all systems. However, there is an extremely simple way, maybe because it is so simple that we have little thought of it as a business card and a piece of clean tape.

Place your card on the touchpad, then stick the tape on its edge so that your card covers the touchpad area.

When you need to use the touchpad, just flip your card. If you are hitting and want to avoid accidental accidents due to the touchpad, then paste it again.
