Windows 7 will be updated for free for another year for certain users
Microsoft has planned for Windows 7 to officially 'retire' from January 2020. This means that Windows 7 will not officially receive support, updates and security patches anymore.
Microsoft is committed to implementing the update support program for Windows 7 for another 3 years provided that individual and business users will have to pay at least US $ 50 or more per device.
However, leaked information from an official Microsoft document shows that some select Microsoft customers will receive an additional year of free updates on Windows 7.
The recipients of this offer are Windows E5 and Microsoft 365 E5 customers. Specifically, EA and EAS customers with Windows 10 Enterprise E5, Microsoft 365 E5, or Microsoft 365 E5 Security registration licenses from December 31, 2019 will receive a promotion support for Windows 7 updates within 1 year. , starting on 1/6.
Microsof's limited-time promotions will give users more options to continue receiving Windows 7 security updates after support ends.
In the future, Windows 7 Home users will have to choose to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 because they will not receive security patches after January 14, 2020.
Currently, Windows 7 with a market share of nearly 35% is still the second most used computer operating system in the world. After the deadline for updating support ends early next year, the percentage of Windows 7 users will plummet.
