International electrical and electronic engineering organization IEEE has begun building a 1 Gb / second wireless broadband standard version capable of competing for other "4G" titles of other technologies, and promising. Replace both mobile and WiMax technology today.
IEEE said this 802.16m standard will be completed in 2009, using OFDM and MIMO technologies that some companies like NTT DoCoMo in Japan used to test wireless transmission at gigabit speeds. The new standard will ensure compatibility with current WiMax (802.16e) and is suitable for both wired and mobile connections.
To achieve this, 802.16m must overcome some limitations in integrating multiple antennas simultaneously. For example, NTT DoCoMo has combined 6 "antennae" to receive radio waves into a mobile device. Current research focuses on minimizing antennas to be able to deliver more quantities into the end product.
