Where does Google store your YouTube and Gmail videos?
Today, it seems that people are used to using laptops, tablets or smartphones to surf the web, send emails, watch videos, read newspapers. Have you ever wondered where emails, videos or even websites are hosted.
Are those activities taking place in an invisible virtual world? The answer is definitely not. Let's go over where Google stores and processes huge data blocks - called Data Center or this data center.
Google Data Center is located in many parts of the world such as the US, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Ireland, Singapore, Taiwan, Chile.
The image in this post is from 5 years ago, you can go straight to the introduction page of the Google data center to see newer, more detailed images. Link at the end of the video "walk around" in Google's data center.
The first activity usually comes from Google's search page when you want to look up something.
Your mouse clicks or queries are transferred to a Google server center:
To work, this center has to employ a lot of employees, some work here for up to 24 hours a day.
In the network room, the device will review your query on Google or Youtube to select the server to answer. After that, the request is sent to the server area.
These computers will have to solve billions of search requests on Google, play YouTube videos or send Gmail. The secret of the competitiveness Google has is in designing these computers so that they work super fast.
Google will keep 2 copies of your data on two different servers. The really important data will be stored in one place especially the tape library (tape library)
The robotic arms in this room are responsible for moving the tapes back and forth.
When the drive is broken, the employee is obliged to delete the data in it and then insert the drive into this machine to cut it into small pieces.
The operation of the center caused a huge amount of heat, so Google needed water towers like this for heat dissipation.
