Zalo has also tightened many free features in recent times. In 2022, the platform once issued a rule that non-paying users would be limited to a maximum of 1,000 friends and could only reply to messages from 40 strangers per month. Last August, Zalo reduced free storage from 1 GB to 500 MB. Users are also restricted from backing up their messaging data to an external cloud platform, and can only use zCloud for a minimum price of 490,000 VND.

Zalo is one of the most popular messaging and social networking platforms in Vietnam. According to statistics from the Ministry of Information and Communications, by mid-2024, the application will have about 76.5 million monthly users.
