The FBI has warned of a new wave of spam that is spreading on the Internet under the title ' FBI against Facebook virtual social network '.
This e-mail requires users to click on a link to view an article about FBI and Facebook but actually download a 'malicious' software.
According to the FBI, previous patterns of Storm worms were distributed via e-tag links, when recipients were asked to click on a new link to receive a greeting card. And the user's computer will be infected with the virus and connect to the botnet (computer network controlled by hackers) containing the Storm worm.
According to Cathy Mihoan, FBI spokesperson, IC3 website has received reports of new infection with the Storm worm. Currently these reports are being collected and investigated thoroughly. The FBI recommends that users should not click on the links contained in the e-mail.
IC3 was founded 8 years ago with the mission of receiving complaints about Internet crimes, and the agency is run by the FBI and the National High-Tech Crime Prevention Center. IC3 is responsible for transferring information to law enforcement agencies, and tracking online criminal trends.
