Hidden Trojan alerts in MP3 music files
A new type of malware can make Windows users 'in danger' when downloading MP3s from peer-to-peer networks.
According to research by Secure Computing, a security company that is very similar to the malware once infected on the computer will find MP3 or MP2 files to convert the code to ASF format. After that, the ghost software inserts links of dangerous websites into music files.
"Invite to" download codecs
Trend Micro called this malware ' Troj_Medpinch.a ', Secure Computing named ' Trojan.ASF.Hijacker.gen ', and Kaspersky called: ' Worm.Win32.GetCodec.a '.
" The ability to attack users is still very small, but this is the first time hackers use this exploit, " said David Emm, senior technical consultant at Kaspersky Lab.
If the user runs a music file that is infected with the virus, it will access the browser and download a malicious website to trick users into downloading the codec - the famous trick to lure users to download malware. If anyone innocently downloaded the codec, it means downloading the Trojan, it will install a malicious program on the computer - allowing hackers to take control of the computer and multimedia files on the PC. Later, these files will be distributed to other computers by e-mail or P2P sharing networks.
According to Kaspersky Lab the 'mp3' extension has not been changed, so the victim cannot detect their differences immediately.
Computer users should be wary of this new worm.
