ARM Windows 8 devices (WOA) will use processors from Nvidia, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm. Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft's President of Windows and Windows Live, describes the basic differences of this version:
- WOA computers will be compatible with programs on Windows 7 PC while Windows 8 for x86 / 64 versions will still work because these software are already standardized for x86.
- WOA does not support virtualization due to " virtualization and simulation software that will consume system resources such as battery, CPU with difficult level acceptable ".
- WOA computer will be clearly labeled to avoid confusion with Windows on x86 / 64.
- WOA will not be distributed as a single software but preinstalled on the computer with full drivers and supporting software.
- Users will not have to turn off the WOA computer when not in use. It also does not have traditional sleep (hibernate) and sleep (hibernate) modes. Instead, the WOA PC is always active in Connected Standby mode, the same way that people use current phones and tablets (the device turns on).
- Office 15: WOA supports Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote but these are Office 15 applications designed for touch screens and minimize power consumption but still have full functionality as a complete program .
- Similarities: WOA and Windows on x86 / 64 have an interface, the same way of operating from logins, opening applications, accessing Windows Store .
